The Power of Mindfulness 12/1

The Theosophical Society’s Thursday Lecture Series features John Cianciosi on Mindfulness.

“The Buddha said that mindfulness is beneficial in every aspect of life, so it is not surprising that today we find it being taught to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. However, mindfulness itself is not a sufficient factor for the arising of peace and wisdom, and there have been reports of people experiencing adverse results when practicing mindfulness. We will discuss the conditions necessary to achieve a successful and beneficial mindfulness practice.”

John Cianciosi, a student of the late Venerable Ajahn Chah, was ordained a Buddhist monk in 1972 and served as spiritual director of monasteries in Thailand and Australia. He is author of The Meditative Path (Quest Books, 2001) and is currently the director of Public Programs at the Theosophical Society in Wheaton.
